Crystal is Calling
What is Telephony?
Telephony is an automated notification solution that makes telephone calls to patrons for you when Polaris notifications are to be sent.
'Crystal' is the voice that calls your patrons.
The number your patrons will see on their display may be any of the following:
780-628-4116
780-628-4011
780-628-4707
780-628-7464
Occasionally, Crystal is unsure if she is speaking to a real person or a voicemail and your patron may not hear the entire message, so ensure your patrons recognize this number.
Telephony send the following notices: holds, overdues, fines and reminders.
Patrons will need to have 'Telephone 1' selected as their notification method in their patron record in order to receive calls from Telephony.
The format for numbers in the notification option 'Telephone1' must be XXX-XXX-XXXX
There are two reports on telephony calls available to you through Polaris Reports & Notices. See:

Reports & Notices > Custom > Telephony > Telephony Call History for a detailed list of all calls made

Reports & Notices > Notices > Telephony Call Failure Report for calls failed only
Contact Kristin if you would like to turn Telephony on at your library or if you have any questions.
Here is what is needed to get your library set up:

confirmation that the library would like overdues, holds and reminders sent via telephony.

confirmation that changes be made to all your library's ‘Mailing Address/Print’ patrons to 'Telephone1' – this eliminates the need for your staff to make manual calls.
NOTE: you will still need to run 'Billing' notices regularly. It is recommended that you continue to run print notices weekly.
Keep in mind that Crystal makes a perfect call about 97% of the time. Also, be aware that Holds for pick-up populate into the Telephony queue immediately as they trap at check-in, while all other notices populate into the queue overnight.
Patrons who are not fond of Crystal may wish to make use of text message notification.
