Updating Computer Skills - August 2008
In preparation for moving from Dynix, a text-based system, to Polaris, a windows-based system, we all need to familiarize ourselves with the Windows environment and the Windows Operating System. From now on when we circulate books, we will be clicking with a mouse to move from screen to screen instead of using keyboard commands.

Test Your Skills
Click here for a Self Evaluation on the Windows Operating System. This small survey is designed to acquaint staff with the general concepts of the Windows environment. Knowing these skills is essential to easy and efficient use of Polaris.

Brush Up on Windows
Need some extra help brushing up your Windows skills? Microsoft Windows Training is available on our Databases page, under the "Education" heading. Choose Microsoft Training Modules.

Cleaning Up Your Collection - June 2008
The Yellowhead Technology Services librarians have asked that all member public libraries weed their collections this summer in preparation for the migration. Weeding will remove all dated, unused, and damaged materials from your library. As you delete these items from the Dynix system, you also ensure that the old and incorrect records will be removed from our Integrated Library System (ILS) just as the old and incorrect books are removed from your library.

A continuation of this cleaning up process is to do an inventory. An inventory process not only helps to find lost and incorrectly shelved books, it also cleans up all the incorrect data in our system. With our data as clean and standardized as possible, the migration of all the data from the Dynix System to the Polaris System will go smoothly.

Thank you for all your hard work! Working together will ensure a smooth transition to our new system.
